Accountability Update Q&A

Below are some common questions that have surfaced.

Question: Have been hearing rumors that the elementary and middle school math test will have an altered calculator policy this year. Is this true?
Answer: The elementary and middle school calculator policy remains the same. At high school, the field tests will be administered online using the online calculator. More details on the field test will be provided during February district assessment coordinator training.

Question: What do we know about this year’s EOC field test in Algebra 2, Biology and English 10.
Answer: The testing window for the EOC field test in Algebra 2, Biology and English 10 will be April 16th to April 27th. It will be administered on-line only with limited accommodations. All students enrolled in an EOC class will take part in the field test. See below for notification of upcoming webinars to learn more. More details will continue to be shared by KDE.

Question: When will we learn more about the department’s response to the federal review panels feedback?
Answer: KDE is currently working to make revisions to the submitted plan and will likely resubmit to USDOE by the end of this month.

Question: We had heard that math standards would be reviewed this school year, is this happening?
Answer: The Mathematics Standards Advisory Panel (AP) will meet Wednesday, January 24, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET, at the Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Boulevard, 1st Floor, Conference Room C, in Frankfort. The panel will continue its work Thursday, January 25 and Friday, January 26 from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET, at the Holiday Inn, 1000 Vandalay Drive, Main Conference Room, in Frankfort. Senate Bill 1 (2017) calls for the Kentucky Department of Education to implement a process for reviewing all academic standards and aligned assessments beginning in the 2017-18 school year. The current schedule calls for one or two content areas to be reviewed each year and every six years after that on a rotating basis The Mathematics Standards Advisory Panel is comprised of 29 members including elementary, middle and high school teachers, members from postsecondary education, and representatives from the Kentucky business community. Question: Have been hearing that course codes are changing and that the new accountability system will pull information from Infinite Campus where inaccuracies in course codes could affect our scoring around items like Opportunity and Access. Have new course codes been released?
Answer: Yes, the new course codes have been released for 2018-19 and are available at this link. Course codes will be used in parts of the new accountability system like Opportunity and Access. KDE is currently offering on-line trainings to school and district staff that are responsible for Infinite Campus.

Question: Are we still anticipating a Holler site for assessment and accountability?
Answer: Yes, the Holler staff has built a test site and we are currently providing content for further development. We anticipate the availability of this resource soon.
