Highland Turner Elementary is focusing on using community partners and parents to drive literacy. The event occurs each quarter to ensure that all stakeholders are involved with continuing literacy activities after school. Community partners from the Public Library, UNITE, district literacy contact, and local church organizations attended the event and provided stations that focused on literacy. Students, along with parents, attended the different stations and were able to focus on literacy by creating a make and take scrabble board, learning how to help their child be an active reader at home, and various other activities throughout the event. Every students that attended the event, received a free book on their level to take home with them.
